                  That was very impressive -
                  the way you lost Cottrell ...

                              ROS
                        (from kitchen)
                  Just a few tricks you pick
                  up driving in London ...

                             BECKETT
                  Cottrell's a perfectionist
                  though ... he won't just
                  give up ...

         He breaks off as he sees a shadow moving on the
         curtains.   He steps, quietly towards the window.


47.      EXT.   ROS' BALCONY.   NIGHT.                         47.

         ED, the climber, is now hanging from the balcony
         above ROS' one.   His legs dangle.

         In a sudden motion BECKETT opens the balcony doors
         and steps out, grabbing the legs of the climbing
         ED.

                             ED
                   Oy!

         BECKETT yanks and pulls ED down.   And now we see
         exactly who the climbing man is - ED, the
         helicopter pilot from the teaser.   The pair of
         them, BECKETT and ED, roll into the room,
         fighting ..


48.      INT.   ROS' FLAT.   LOUNGE.    DAY.                    48.

         ROS comes in from the kitchen.

                             ROS
                   Ed!

                             ED
                   Ros?

         BECKETT, about to punch ED to hold back his fist.


                             BECKETT
                  You know him?

                             ROS
                  He lives on the top.floor.

         ED gets to his feet, he's a cheerful bloke in his
         late twenties.   BECKETT holds out his hand to
         shake.
                             BECKETT
                    Nick Beckett.                    

         ED turns to BECKETT, takes his hand, shakes.

                             ED
         **         Ed.                            **
         **                  BECKETT               **
         **         You make a habit of climbing   **
                    up walls?
         **                  ED                    **
         **         I was just going home - the    **
                    interesting way ...
                             ROS
         *          It's a habit of his. When      *
         *          I bought the flat no one       *
         *          told me the block had a        *
         *          resident Spiderman.            *
                         (to ED)
         *          Ed, this is Beckett - he       *
                    works - or used to work, I
                    should say - for something
                    called The Hive.

                              ED
                          (surprised)
                    I did a job for them
                    yesterday - got shot at for
                    my troubles ...

          BECKETT just looks at him.

                              BECKETT
                    You must have been
                    Ballantyne's pilot.
   				
			      ED
                   Ballantyne?    Yeah, that was
                   his name.    Mate of yours?

                              BECKETT
                   He was.     I've got a nasty
               *   feeling he's dead.   I heard  *
               *   this shot - at least I think  *
               *   it's a shot.                  *

			      BECKETT
             **       Trouble is the tape is back      **
                      in The Hive.

                               ROS
             **       That's the tape you want me      **
                      to enhance?

             BECKETT nods.
             *                                         *
                               ED
                      And now you've left you
                      can't just pop in and
                      collect it?

                                BECKETT
                      Our security makes Fort Knox
                      look like a play pen.

             *                  ED                      *
             *        Sounds interesting.              *

             *                  BECKETT                *
             *        Meaning?                         *

                                ED
                      I like a challenge...
             *              (shrugs)                   *
             *        And Ballantyne seemed an all     *
                      right bloke. If
                      something's happened to him,
                      I'd like to help, if I
                      can ...

                                BECKETT
                      And how exactly can you
                      help?

             ED grins.


    49.      INT.   BECKETT'S CAR.      PARRED.   NIGHT.           49.

             BECKETT and ROS, wearing Hive-style headsets, are
             looking at pictures of the Hive on a small TV
             screen, amongst some other Gizmos equipment, which
             ROS has filled the car with.
