* 1. EXT. WATERLOO EUROSTAR TERMINAL. DAY. 1. * A sleek Eurostar Express train arrives in London from the Continent. * 2. INT. ARRIVALS. WATERLOO EUROSTAR TERMINAL. DAY. 2. * An Italian political DELEGATION arrives in Britain. The DELEGATION is jointly-led by ALBERTO CORELLI and ANNA FABRIZI. Both are young and good-looking, they could even be taken for film stars. Both wear some form of badge featuring the symbol of their party - the Liberty Party - a stylised torch. Amongst the ENTOURAGE we may also notice GINA, ANNA's young secretary. As the PARTY move through the arrivals area they are qreeted by a MAN who has an air of authority. His name is WENCE from the top secret Special Services Department (SSD). He shows an ID pass. WENCE (shaking hands) Wence. SSD. I'm in charge of security during your visit. CORELLI and ANNA smile briefly and return the greeting. WENCE There are several things I'd like to discuss - ANNA Later ... later. Press conference first. WENCE * Miss Fabrizi -! * ANNA and CORELLI move away from WENCE as PHOTOGRAPHERS swarm around them, brushing WENCE aside. * 3 3. * CORELLI and ANNA sit or stand in front of microphones at a press conference. ANNA is trying to quieten the JOURNALISTS. A temporary backcloth has been put up behind them. On it is the name "Liberty Party" in Italian, with their logo, a flaming torch. JOURNALIST 1 The Liberty Party is only two years old. Why are the Italian voters taking you so seriously? CORELLI * Because we represent a new * * honesty in Italian politics * * - a rejection of the old * * ways. * ANNA We are against corruption. We want to clean up politics in our country once and for all. That's why we are here to attend the Conference on Open Government. Somewhere at the back of the room is a man called MACKENZIE. He is patently not a journalist, nor a member of the Italian party. He looks coldly at ANNA and CORELLI. JOURNALIST 1 Isn't your stand against corruption just window dressing? A cynical attempt to win votes? ANNA (suddenly serious) My enemies don't think it's just window dressing. I have had death threats ... But they won't stop me speaking out. Fighting corruption is the only reason I am in politics. With me it is a total passion. JOURNALIST 2 What about your other passion? Wwhen are you and Alberto going to name the big day? * ANNA * The big day is next week - the general election. JOURNALIST 2 You know what I mean - when are you two getting married? * ANNA and CORELLI look at each other and shrug. * ANNA * The more we deny there's * * anything between us, the * * more you print the opposite. * As more questions about their presumed romance are shouted out, the press conference degenerates, and we FOCUS on MACKENZIE again. At the back of the room MACKENZIE speaks quietly into a mobile phone. MACKENZIE She's arrived. Do it now. ** 4. INT. HOTEL CORRIDOR.
