SYNOPSIS

Ed is concerned about Alex, and suspicious of Adam. Ed wonders how Adam can afford the expensive presents he is buying her.

Two twins, Marcus and Michael are trying to extort money from a company called CET. They plant a bomb in the foyer of the company's HQ which explodes.

The Bugs Team learn that the twins are extremely intelligent. They were child geniuses who went to University at the age of 12. They both worked for CET for a short while where they produced many brilliant ideas and inventions, but they did not fit into the corporate environment. Both left the company disillusioned, and none of their ideas were taken up until much later.

Ros gets the news that her former boyfriend, Channing Hardy, has sold his company, including all the licences to Ros's electronic products, to a Japanese firm run by a man called Tachibana. Ros meets Tachibana and understands that she can buy back her licences if she raises sufficient money. She looks up an old friend, banker Graeme Hurry, and borrows £3 million from his bank. When she takes this to Tachibana, he discloses that the buy-back price is dependent on the share price - which has recently increased. Ros now needs to find £5 million in total.

A second bomb, placed at a CET office by the twins, is defused successfully. This brings the Bugs Team to the attention of the Twins who secretly watch the defusing operations. The twins lay a booby trap for Ed and Beckett, but the Bugs men escape the explosion just in time.

Alex and Adam are working together because the Bureau is making use of some technology from the Hive (where Adam works). With this, they track down the place the twins are using as a base. Alex and Adam go there but are trapped by the twins and imprisoned in an industrial freezer. Adam and Alex have to keep close together to retain heat, and keep themselves alive.

Beckett visits Ian, an old naval friend, with a piece of hardware he found in the twins' van. Ian promises to get back in touch when he has identified it and discovered its provenance. Leaving the naval base, Beckett is attacked by the twins, and kidnapped.

Christa arrives at the building which houses the Bureau, looking for Beckett who has failed to keep an appointment. Ros finds Christa in the foyer making a scene, and so takes her up to the Bureau itself. For the first time, Christa discovers something of what Beckett does for a living; she is amazed. While she is there, the twins send a ransom demand for Beckett's life, and also issue another demand from CET. They have placed a bomb at CET's satellite ground station. Ros and Christa talk about Beckett, and Christa realises that Ros still harbours strong feelings for him.

Ros gets a further £2million loan from Hurry but never manages to get the money to Tachibana. lan, who Beckett consulted earlier, comes through with a vital clue, and Ros hurries with Ed to the twins' base. Meanwhile, Jan goes to the satellite ground station to help search for the bomb there.

Ed rescues Adam and Alex from the freezer, and in doing so finds by chance a bank statement which shows Adam's account to have had some mysteriously large, regular payments which were not his salary.

Ros finds Beckett near a bomb with a 'reverse proximity fuse". If Beckett moves too far from the explosive, a device fixed to his wrist will detonate the bomb. Ros helps Beckett to get the bomb out of the building while she and Ed confront the Twins.

Ed and Ros stop the twins detonating the bomb at the ground station. The twins run off and jump into Ros's car - but Beckett has already put the "reverse proximity" bomb into Ros car, intending to drive it to a safe place to detonate. The twins drive off, realise the bomb is in the car, and bail out. The car explodes - along with Ros’s £5 million intended for Tachibana, as well.

Tachibana comes to a deal with Ros and Hurry's employers that lets them both of the hook - though Ros is no longer so rich and has lost control of the exploitation of her inventions.

Ed asks Jan to make enquiries at the Hive about Adam: Ed doesn't want Alex to be hurt. Beckett wants to continue his relationship with Christa. Christa points out that Ros appears to have strong feelings for him, but Beckett denies this.

Adam and Alex surprise everyone by announcing that they are engaged to be married.
