SYNOPSIS

Preparations are advancing for Adam and Alex’s wedding: Alex is choosing a wedding dress, and Christa, who will accompany Beckett to the wedding is buying a hat. But not all is going smoothly. Adam and Alex argue about wedding presents and who to invite. Ed still distrusts Adam and believes he needs serious investigation.

Jan is introduced by Dent, the Hive Director, to Michaelson, a banker. Michaelson has developed some software for the Hive called Catflap which is a decoding system and backdoor into the inter-bank transfer system known as CATS. Michaelson is being threatened by two young people, Wymark and Zephyr. They want him to give them the whole Catflap programme, or else they will reveal misdemeanours about him which will result in him being disgraced and losing his job. If criminals got hold of Catflap, they would be able to access any money transfer anywhere and divert it to their own account.

Wymark and Zephyr are extremely skilled with computers. They run an Internet Service Provider, and also an e-mail business. They contact Michaelson by means of a computer- generated 'avatar'. Ros discovers that electronic "'spiders" have infiltrated Michaelson's computer via some junk e- mail. it is these spiders which have spied inside his computer system and given Wymark and Zephyr the information they are using as leverage.

A meeting is set up between Michaelson and the villains. Michaelson insists on taking part in this meeting himself against the advice of the Bugs Team. A fake Catflap disk has been prepared which Michaelson will hand over. At the meeting, closely monitored by the Team, Michaelson rashly tries to stop the villains getting away, and is killed.

Jan blames herself for Michaelson's death, and seeks advice from her psychiatrist friend, Simon. She feels she has hardened herself too much over the years, and is in danger of losing touch with real emotion. Jan goes to see Michaelson's widow, but Mrs Michaelson only throws Jan's concern back at her. She accuses Jan of coming to see her simply to obtain absolution: but Mrs Michaelson refuses to give this, and criticises Jan for getting her husband killed.

Ros and Beckett infiltrate Zephyr and Wymark's business. Ros is able to locate the spiders in their computers and attaches a virus to them, so that whenever they are sent out to spy again they can be detected.

Ed has been digging into Adam's bank account. He finds that the large regular payments he was concerned about have come from a trust fund apparently set up by Adam's Uncle James.

Zephyr and Wymark have sent out spiders attached to their junk e-mails. The spiders have been programmed to look into any computer files concerned with the CATS system. This way, they discover all about the Hive's Catflap program, and discover that Adam is a man with a secret.

Wymark and Zephyr track down Adam, and threaten him. Unless he gets them the Catflap disk they will reveal all about his illicit Uncle James trust fund. Adam protests that his Uncle is real enough. Wymark and Zephyr then threaten to kill Alex unless Adam does what they want. They know all about his upcoming wedding.

Meanwhile, Alex has discovered that spiders have penetrated files at the Hive. She alerts the Bureau. Beckett and Alex go at once to see Dent, the Hive Director. Dent doesn't believe there is any danger: the Catflap programme is kept physically on DVD in a secure vault, and cannot be stolen merely by hacking into computer files. Nevertheless, he agrees to show Beckett where the disk is.

At the same time, we see Adam steal Dent's security pass card and make his way to the vault. He steals the Catflap disk. Alarms are set off and Adam has difficulty in making his way out of the building.

Alex becomes separated from Beckett and is surprised to bump into Adam. Adam covers up well, though his edgy manner causes Alex some concern. Adam separates himself from Alex, who meets up with Beekett again. Beckett has found one of Alex's gizmos lying on the floor near the Hive vault. Alex knows that she did not have the gizmo with her - but Adam had been using it earlier in the day. She suddenly becomes suspicious.

Jan goes with Ros and Ed to Wymark's base, where Ros and Ed break in to wipe the computers of all the illegally obtained information. Ed and Ros are in the middle of this when Wymark and Zephyr burst in. Ros and Ed flee to the roof where the start to abseil down to the ground.

During the descent, Ros is shot and seriously wounded
