A brief guide to those who helped the Gizmos Team in
Season One.
Out of the Hive:
Ballantyne Employed by The Hive as a Field Agent, Ballantyne has the task of transporting SACROS to the Hive's HQ. The helicopter hired to deliver SACROS is piloted by Ed, and soon after takeoff is buzzed by an enemy copter. Only by quick flying and sharp shooting is Ed able to help Ballantyne complete his mission, whilst the enemy copter is destroyed. However, Ballantyne loses his life at the hands of Elana Johnson, who shoots the agent whilst hes on the phone to Nick Beckett
Out of the
Hive: Dent The Head of the Government listening post known as The Hive, Dent is impressed with SACROS ability to jam satellite signals at their source. He is unaware however that his subordinate Cotterell and his Head of Security Alan Moore are conspiring to steal the device. It is only Becketts intervention that saves the day, although he is unable to save SACROS from a fiery end
Assassins,
Inc: Roland Blatty (reocurring Character, Season Two and Three) Roland Blatty is an old University friend of Ros, and is the head of the newly created Bureau of Weapons Technology created to police and prosecute illegal arms dealers. Ros meets him aboard Marine Commands floating HQ the night the Regent of a Far Eastern country is assassinated by a device illegally sold by Cyberscopes Irene Campbell. Blatty then asks Ros to help him find the evidence in Cyberscopes computers that will link Campbell with the sales. Blatty is a pleasant-enough man, but is rather inefficient: it is only Ros flair for data recovery that finally allows him to get the evidence he needs. It is obvious that he and Ros are close, and may have been intimate at some time in the past.
Assassins,
Inc.: Ralph Bloch Ralph is one of Irenes brightest design engineers, who realised that he was being used to create deadly weapons and was promptly committed to a Mental Asylum as a result. He is the designer of the eyes on the mosquito assassin device that was used to kill the Regent. Another device is sent by Marasco whilst Ralph is talking to Ed, laced with the same pheromone-specific infection
Assassins,
Inc.: Admiral Lansdale The Admiral is the
semi-official Liaison Officer for Marine Command in the sensitive Far-eastern country from
which the Regent was in exile. He is the first victim of Irene Campbells Voice Activated Bomb.
All Under
Control: Jerry Langford: Jerry is the Managing Director of a busy provincial airport, who summons the Bugs team when a mystery blackmailer known as Icarus takes remote control firstly of her private jet, and then of a busy passenger aircraft. No-nonsense and practical, she authorises the payment of a massive ransom when Ros is trapped aboard the aircraft as it is remotely controlled by Icarus to take off and circle the airport.
All
Under Control: Nigel Todd Todd is Langfords Head of Security at the Airport, and takes an immediate dislike to Becketts team. He is more approving of conventional security measures, and views Becketts approach as both dangerous and unconventional. His insistence to keep Beckett and Ed away from the aircraft "controlled" by Icarus leads to Ros being trapped on board and taking off with the plane. He meets an untimely end at the hands of Wyman.
Down
Among the Dead Men: Graeme Hurry Hurry is the Head of Security for merchant bankers Kamen and Ross: he hires the team when he suspects ex-employee Bryan Brody and his wife Juliet of planning to defraud his employers with the help of an ex-naval diver, McTiernan. After his funding for the teams investigations is cut off he continues to assist Ros in identifying how Brody will execute his plan, and to locate Ed and Beckett. Without the use of Hurrys security codes (allowing her access to the Kamen and Ross mainframe) Ros would have been unable to ascertain and thwart the Brodys plans
Shotgun
Wedding: Anna Fabrizi Italian politician who, with Alberto Corelli, forms the Liberty Party, intent of removing corruption from Italian politics. In England for a political conference, Commander Wence personally handles Annas security, but it soon becomes apparent the Bugs team are needed to prevent Fabrizi from being killed by her enemies. Attractive and intelligent, Anna is keen to present herself without faleshoods, and resents having to pretend she is dating Corelli to keep publicity interest.
Shotgun
Wedding: William Swift True fiancé of Anna, Swift is a designer of logos with lasers. He believes his fiancée is in danger and hires the Team to sweep his office for bugs. He met Anna at Royal College Green, a place they return to unaware that Starkey, an assassin, has planted a bomb there to kill them. He clearly cares about his fiancée, and is initially cagey with the team, until they prove their integrity by saving him and Anna from the explosion. With Ros help is able to use his laser technology to produce, first a 3D image of a bear, then of Anna herself to act as bait for another of Starkeys assassination attempts.
Shotgun
Wedding: Commander Wence
(Reccurring Character, Season 2) Head of SSD, Wence is charged with the protection of Fabrizi and Corelli during their stay. A man who does things by the book, and with little regard for finesse or low-key approaches, Wence is capable of making anyone simply "disappear", as his department is so secret that no-one really knows it exists. Has an immediate dislike for Beckett (as he breaks into SSDs offices!) and his teams methods, and always seems to be one step behind the game
Although not initial allies, the team are soon thrown together with these two girls as they continue to execute revenge on ONeill ("Uncle Dave" to them) for putting their father Jack out of business ten years previously. Not the most intelligent of girls, there are three separate attempts to photograph and extract secrets from the Trancer, all of which end in failure. The first car they steal is in fact a fake. Beckett and Ed bring their second attempt to a sudden stop, whilst Eds pursuit of the pair in the real Trancer activates its Passive Safety System. The final attempt ends with the Trancer being spectacularly blown up. The pairs next attempt at thieving causes a great many more problems with the vehicle they steal being powered by plutonium
Manna from
Heaven: Richard Lennox Head of New Earth Foods, Lennox is the creator of Phodex, a food substance which he claims will solve many of the Worlds hunger problems. He is clearly proud of his achievement, and at times seems concerned with nothing else but the algaes well-being. Lennox is convinced that this discovery will give him the upper hand over his main rival, Zander (Research Director of Hennessy Brock), but doesnt bank on his research assistant Sally being a spy. However, Phodex has a terrible secret, and Lennoxs single-minded (and blinkered) view of Phodex as a miracle food and money-spinner for him almost lead to his own downfall.
Manna from
Heaven: Peter Glass Head of Security at New Earth, Glass is a practical and no-nonsense character who seems happy to allow Lennox to run the company, and to supervise its security arrangements. Lennox will not even trust Glass with the password to the safe that contains samples of Phodex seed materials, which leads Ed to a number of problems when forced to try and open the safe to save bot Lennoxs and Ros lives.
Hot Metal:
Georgina Kent A Government official from an unnamed department, Kent hires the team to protect a volatile metal (R6) being manufactured under license at Millennium Metals. Professional and refined, she is at pains to try and remain neutral, believing her security arrangements at the Government lab that tests the R6 produced by Millennium to be more than adequate. It is only when she is shot by professional assassin Da Silva that she begins to take Becketts warnings seriously
A Sporting
Chance: Frances De Freitas The head of the International Sporting Academy, De Freitas hires the team to investigate what she believes to be the side-effects of a treatment being administered by her Head of Sports Medicine, Peter Hunter. However, she is unaware that Hunter has another, military agenda, which will make soldiers into super-soldiers. The drug, Tri-meserone, however is unstable, and De Freitas is used as a hostage to force Ros to prove that Hunters final batch of the drug will work as intended. She is shot as she tries to escape from Easterhaus, the man behind Hunters research
Pulse:
Clare Bishop The owner of Weaponworks, Claire is an old friend of Eds whose business entails the sale and manufacture of non-lethal weaponry. Self confident and keen not to accept help (even when she needs it) Clare is forced into helping the evil Jean-Daniel and Patric Marcel when he daughter Katie is kidnapped. She manufactures two electro-magnetic pulse weapons (intended to wreak havoc in London and Geneva) in the mistaken belief that by doing so her daughter will be released. It takes the teams joint efforts to release Katie, and Clares non-lethal glue gun serves as a fitting weapon to trap Jean-Daniel
Pulse: Katie
Bishop Jean-Daniel and Patric Marcel, to force her mother to work for them, kidnap Clares bright and computer literate daughter. Katies ability with electronic machinery is an unexpected bonus for fellow in-mate Beckett, when faced with the task of re-programming Jean-Daniels Missile Control panel
Pulse: Lena
Williams Employee at Newsoms Truck Builders, Lena allows the team to "run" the company when its boss is blown up by a device planted by Jean-Daniel. |
